Gatherings

While the Holle family reunions certainly are an enjoyable time, the gatherings with our immediate family are also very memorable! On almost every major holiday all 19 Holle family members try to gather together. This page will lead you through how each holiday is celebrated with one another!

The first holiday that is spent together after the new year is Easter! The Holle’s spend this holiday much like other families. We enjoy a huge potluck meal, filled with great dishes and peanut butter balls! After eating, the grandchildren each look at the gifts in their Easter baskets! Then, the hunting begins! Each of the nine grandkids have nearly five to six eggs with their names on them, filled with chocolate, dollar bills, or coins! This Easter egg hunt is always fun and challenging! Almost every year there is one egg that is never found (as Grandma and Grandpa Holle forget where they hide the eggs)!

The second holiday that the Holle’s gather together for is the Fourth of July! The Fourth of July is spent very differently compared to these other major holidays. While technically the Holle’s celebrate this holiday on the 3rd of July, it is always an enjoyable celebration. Every year, Jason and Noel invite friends and family over to their household for their neighborhood party! This is a time filled with swimming, yard games, great food, and an outstanding firework show!

Thirdly, the Holle’s also gather together on October 31st, or Halloween every year! While this gathering is less formal, every year Larry and Althea invite all of the family over for dinner. After dinner and a picture of the grandchildren in their festive costumes, it is time for trick or treating! This gathering is considered “less formal” because only a couple of families gather for this holiday. Depending on their plans or the ages of the grandchildren, some families spend this holiday elsewhere.

The Holle’s also enjoy spending Thanksgiving with one another. Each Thanksgiving the Holle’s gather for a great meal. This meal contains both turkey and ham, Jason and Noel’s outstanding rolls, lots of pie, and much more! The Thanksgiving meal at the Holle’s is definitely memorable! After a very filling meal, the Holle’s spend the rest of the time playing games and cards!

Last, but certainly not least, all 19 individuals gather together on Christmas! On Christmas Day, Kevin, Doug, Jason, Mike, and their families all arrive at Larry and Althea’s home for supper. Every family dresses up for the occasion, and many pictures are taken. After pictures, it is time for a buffet! Each family brings a dish or two, creating a feast in which everyone is left stuffed! During this holiday the adults gather at the upstairs dining table, while the children are required to eat downstairs at the “Kid’s Table.” After a delicious dinner, each grandkid opens their stocking stuffers! You can probably guess what is next! It is time to open presents! All 19 Holle’s gather in a very small living room, in which only the adults are allowed to sit on a chair or couch. After opening gifts, snacking on some leftovers, and exploring each new present, the celebration is concluded with cleaning up all of the wrapping paper.

In the end, seeing one another on almost every major holiday is certainly a blessing. The fact that all 19 of the Holle’s live in Lincoln, Nebraska allows for these gatherings to easily take place!
