The Holle Lawn Aerating softball team has been around since 1988! It all started with a group of 18 and 19 year olds. The team began without any sponsor until 1990, when it was sponsered by Larry Holle and the lawn aerting business. Many of these college students had played baseball in the past, and enjoyed the competition. In 1990, they played in three tournaments (and placed second and third)! This team played only about 20 games a year in the beginning. Within a few years, they were playing about 50 games a summer! As time went on, some players moved away, so younger players were able to join! No matter who was on the team, they all had a great time and enjoyed playing! Over the career of this original team, they earned nearly 45 trophies (many of which remain in Kevin Holle’s posession today). Included in these trophies is four city championships and a State runner-up! Kevin Holle, one of the co-founders, stated, “It was so much fun to see all of these guys on a weekly basis. We built such great relationships, and it was sad to see it come to and end.” In 2014, the Holle Lawn Aerating softball team came to an end. All of the players had their own families, children, and schedules. “It was difficult for each player to find time to play, so we knew it was time to end this team,” Kevin replied, “This was definitely a great team. We all had very close friendships with one another. It was definitely much more than just a softball team. It was very sad to see the Holle softball team come to an end.”
In 2019, Logan Holle, Kevin Holle’s son, started the Holle Lawn Aerating softball team up again. This team, while mainting the same name, sponser, and similar jerseys, had a whole different roster and overall look. All of the players were again young college students, but many of them had never played baseball or softball before. With time and practice, the team continued to improve. Logan replied, “The team started off a little rough. While the 4-6 record may not show it, this team has certainly improved. We started off 0-4, and then we won four in a row until losing our final tournament games.” The 2020 season was cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak, and many were dissapointed over the fact that they couldn’t play this summer. While this season was cancelled, Logan and his teamates are excited for softball to start up again as they are looking for their first championship! In all, this team has brought so many people together, and built memories to last a lifetime! “I definitely enjoy the fellowship that we are able to have with one another, ” Logan stated, “It provides the opportunity for me to see people on a weekly basis, rather than only a couple of times a year.” While the 2020 season may have been cancelled, the 2019 roster and photos taken this past season were very memorable!
